Spring Break

Wednesday March Fifth at 4 o'clock marked the beginning of Cody's spring break. As he left his Speech class he thought of what the night would bring. The first thing on his mind was that the plans that he and his friends had made to go to North Carolina had fallen through. On his walk back to his truck he decided that he was going to get in touch with his friend Frederich Miller, whom he hadn't hung out with in a couple weeks. Frederich always seemed to put him in a good mood. He is the sort of guy who doesn't have to say anything, but somehow makes you realize what you are thinking yourself. That night Cody, Frederich, Bean, and some other friends got together, and rambled on about school, work, and anything else that came to mind of coarse Fred worked his magic in lightening the mood to a once again uneventful spring break.
Over the coarse of spring break Cody and Fred got along quite well. Unfortunately for Fred break has now come to an end, and now Cody will once again only talk to him on weekends and the nights before Holidays.

The Fam

I guess I really don't have any particular story I would like to tell about my family or any member thereof, but instead I will just tell about them.
My parents started their lives in very different settings. My Dad was born in 1950 in a small town called Mt. Lake. He was born the son of a mechanic and a stay at home mom. My mom was born in the heart of Minneapolis. She also had a stay at home mom, but her dad was a factory worker.
I have two brothers. One is older and one is younger. My older brother, Chad, is the pioneer of brothers. Meaning that he was the leader, as well he should have been being the oldest. He was the first to listen to music that mom and dad didn't, and he sometimes got in trouble for his musical likes. He was also the first of our generation to join the army. Since then he has been the first to get married, and will soon become the first brother to have a baby.
Then with progression my younger brother and I have made changes to Chads pioneering taken our own paths.
I also joined the Army, but changed Chads model by going to college.
Then Chris instead of going into the army decided to go to college right away, and changed my example by going to a private college.
All in all I am very proud of my family, and where we have all gone with our lives. My family means more to me now than they did while I was growing up, and I hope that stays the same or gets stronger until the day I hit the dirt.

Ethanol (friendly fuel or folly)

Unfortunately I haven't done much more than thought into my topic as of yet, but I will be taking much of spring break to get most of my way through the paper. My only main concern for this paper is that I put it in the drop box at the right time.

A Modest Proposal

The problem described in this essay is that of overpopulation and poverty. The Mr. Smith initially proposes that the rich people can have trade with the poor by making a yearling child into a delacasy. Then later in the essay he basically says, "Are you nuts? Don't eat the children. Treat your wife well. Help the poor become useful members of society. Would you have liked to have beet sold as a meal when you were one?" I think that it was effective how Smith completely described his obserd solution for a very real problem just to make people aware of how they were itemizing people every day.

Living Green with Woody Harrelson

The SOL Tour. Woody Harrelson, famous actor and green world activist, spearheaded a journey for a small group of people that impacted the thought processes of so many more. Whether or not adequate proof of the greenhouse effect actually exists is debatable, but the proof that living green is healthier speaks for itself. Throughout the film the entire group was biking down the western coast of the United States. Woody and his Crew stopped in many places along the way selling his point of living green. The filmography was good, and depicted the true documentary itself. I do agree with one of the women that woody talked to about the flying of the upside down flag. In my home town he would've been shot. I also agreed that that gesture almost shut me off to the movie all together. In fact I almost walked out. Aside from that I thought that the documentary itself was good, and it could open up the young mind of a college student. If all other points fail. I applaud Woody for standing up for what he believes.

My Name

My name is Cody David Wiens. My parents never used any traditional family names for the first name. So my first name came from an early eighties movie character who was a child genius. This is funny considering that I don't consider myself overly smart at all. Cody means good helper.
My middle name, David, was my grandfathers and uncles name. Then my last name, Wiens, is only a third generation American name. It followed my German great grandfather to America. Since then it has added many nationalities. I am a quarter German, a quarter Swede, an eighth Norwegian, an eighth French, a sixteenth Scotch, and finally another sixteenth Blackfoot Cherokee Indian. The Wiens name carries a lot of pride. While considering its entire heritage I have had an ancestor in every war that America has fought although we fought for the wrong side in the civil war.

Fun at the library

Question One. What did I learn about researching while we were at the library?
Truthfully, I there wasn't a whole lot talked about at the library that I didn't already know. One thing I did learn was that we can use various search engines to research individual books, and get feedback as well as a book summary on specific books and not have to read them first.

Question Two. What concerns do I still have about my paper?
I think that my biggest concern would have to be that I bit off more than I can chew. I have a somewhat broad topic. It has to do with the American Internment of American citizens of Japanese descent/ ancestry. When I picked this topic I knew nothing about it, in fact I thought it was the American imprisonment of Chinese Americans during World War I. Now that I have done quite a bit of reading and have jotted down my own notes I don't know where to start. Although I do think that I will learn a lot while writing this paper. I also am concerned about how long it will take, but I am going to put forth the utmost effort to make it a very informative paper.
