Obama's 'A More Perfect Union Speech' v. "Letter from a Birmingham Jail [King, Jr.]"

The most obvious point of difference between the two is the time at which they were written. While King was writing from Birmingham, America was at its height of racial tension. Then when Obama gave his speech he made referrals to the injustices of the past as well as the current intrusive policies.
While Barack used parts of his speech to defend a man for his, less popular, beliefs. King was defending his own, less popular, actions. In the midst of defending ones point, and fighting for something for the betterment of all each man brought his own views to the table. Both men conveyed his point in a well thought-out manner that could appeal to anyone of any belief system. Each man used the Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs from bottom to top. Mr. King referred to the safety of the people of Birmingham, and Barack spoke about each persons possibility to strive for the best that he/she can do, both in life and in work.
Finally each man did a very fine job of portraying his point on a controversial topic in an audience friendly manner.
